Bringing a Sense of Calm to Mexborough CDC

Having successfully completed previous interior design projects for Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Trust, Keane were approached to design a fresh, modern, and calming look for a brand-new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) Imaging Suite at Montagu Hospital, Mexborough. 

The new CDC suite provides a broad range of elective diagnostics, including checks, scans, and tests, and houses a static CT, MRI and ultrasound facilities, allowing for a substantial increase in the site’s capacity to undertake diagnostic tests. Their main aim was to create a warm, relaxing environment for patients, during what can potentially be a worrying time for them.

Liaising closely with the team at Montague CDC, and working within defined parameters of the construction contractors, we took time to understand the overall vision for the building, being empathetic to the architectural concept and taking into consideration that our designs would need to meet both the functional and emotional elements of the centre. 

During the process, site visits were essential to view the scope of the work and ensure that the proposed design would flow throughout the different areas within the building without feeling disjointed or incongruent when in different 'departments'.  

Through discussions with their team, we created several design concepts, which were then refined into final artwork that reflected the desired calming, welcoming, and fluent aesthetic.

Once the final designs had been agreed, we worked with an experienced and trusted large format printer, with whom we’ve collaborated on several other projects, to ensure that the consistency of quality remained from the design through to the application of the wall art.

It has been a rewarding project for Keane, being able to use our Design and Marketing skills in a more public space, knowing that it will make a difference to those who use and experience this new NHS imaging suite. Whilst we would typically focus on B2B marketing, this reflects how we can add value within any sector. We love having variety in our work, and this project has been a joy to see come to life.
