Alternatives to Influencer Marketing

There’s no denying that Influencer Marketing has gained immense popularity, and while it can be effective, it may not always be the best choice for every business. As covered in our Pro’s and Con’s blog, there are several negatives that can come into play when using influencer marketing, such as the amount it can cost (Cristiano Ronaldo charges 3 million for one post! – although I’m sure Lisa with 2000 followers doesn’t charge quite as much), control of messaging, and risk of mismatched audiences. However, there are plenty of alternative methods to choose from to promote your products, build brand awareness, and engage with your target audience. These alternatives vary in approach, but each can be effective depending on your business goals and audience.

  1. Content Marketing

Content Marketing such as blogging, video marketing and podcasts are a great way to talk about and showcase your business. They offer a lot more control over content, allowing you to build deeper connections with your audience and create long-lasting relationships. Unlike influencer marketing, which relies on third-party credibility, these methods enable brands to establish their voice, engage directly with their audience, and create valuable and trustworthy content.

  1. Social Media (without influencers)

Creating your own organic social media allows you to take full reign over what content you want your audience to see. It also allows you to dive into your business values, something an influencer may not be completely aware of. As with content marketing, you can build loyalty and trust with your followers and begin to foster relationships.

  1. Paid ads

Paid ads can offer a more precise targeting, allowing businesses to reach their target audience through criteria such as interests and behaviours.  Platforms such as Google ads and social media ads generate real-time immediate results and offer analytics to track their success. Unlike influencer marketing, paid ads also give brands full control over their messaging and budget, ensuring a consistent and direct connection with their audience.

  1. Contests & giveaways

Contests and giveaway are an excellent way to increase engagement and expand your reach. Who doesn’t love free stuff? By encouraging people to share your business or tag friends in the comments it creates a ‘buzz’ and attracts people to your business. This gives you the opportunity to build relationships and receive new leads.

  1. Traditional Advertising

Although traditional advertising has declined in popularity, it can be a very powerful tool! With local radio stations offering targeted reach, you can effectively connect with your community, and for a much smaller price than influencer marketing. TV channels also offer spots for adverts (you could see your advert in the interval for Coronation Street!). With little tricks such as adding a ‘catchy jingle’ or memorable tagline, it will help people to recognise your business/brand.

Other traditional methods include print – yes, away from the digital world! Print methods such as newspapers, local gazettes and flyers can be a great way to spread word about your business and services, and also help increase awareness.

  1. Email campaigns

Email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to engage existing customers. Often outperforming influencer marketing it allows for direct and personalised communication with your audience. Unlike other methods, such as influencer marketing, you can choose the exact people you contact, giving you full control over messaging and timing, fostering long-term relationships with customers. This makes email marketing a much more reliable and efficient strategy for driving sales and brand loyalty.

  1. Event Marketing

Event Marketing can involve several virtual and physical methods. These include webinars, trade shows, conferences, and even parties! All of these allow you to communicate directly with customers or other businesses, presenting who you are and what you can offer. They give you the chance to be your true-self, so make sure you make a good impression! You can open up so many new doors whether that be simply through speaking to someone, or even through being invited to other business events.
