Having successfully worked with a number of departments across Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Trust, Keane was approached to work on a design project at the Jasmine Centre within Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The brief was to transform patient experience in its mammography and ultrasound rooms.
The project focused on creating an environment that helps reduce anxiety for patients undergoing often stressful and sensitive procedures. Keane adopted a carefully balanced approach, combining soft, soothing colour palettes with subtle graphic elements that provide gentle distraction without overwhelming the space.
Key to the brief was ensuring that the design remained simple and practical. Overly intricate patterns and complex installations were deliberately avoided, allowing for straightforward application and cost-effective implementation. This approach not only supported budget considerations but also ensured durability and ease of maintenance within a clinical setting. Working once again wtih a local Large Format Printer with in-depth expertise across these requirements created a seamless installation process, limiting disruption to a busy and sensitive environment.
Through thoughtful, calming interiors, the resulting spaces offer a more welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, helping patients feel at ease, whilst still maintaining the functional requirements of a busy healthcare environment. By prioritising calmness, clarity, and simplicity, the project demonstrates how well-considered design can play a meaningful role in improving patient wellbeing.
